African Origin Coffee
With the differences in soils and climates, Africa may be one of the most exciting continents on the world when we’re talking about coffee beans. Though a lot of African coffee is used for bulk supply, the Costa and Starbucks of the world, some of the most beautiful tastes are regarded from East Africa, and as such, our coffee features heavily from this region.
Ethiopia, the birthplace of coffee. They’ve been brewing it for over a thousand years so that is a lot of lived-in experience! The bean history is so old it is undocumented and often labelled as ‘heirloom’.
Kenyan coffee can always offer a fruity, berry like instance and tend to be medium-to-full bodied.
Rwanda has a relatively short life as a producer, but has shone in that short time. A high elevation in Rwanda offers a dense bean so we’ll use a higher temparature for longer without having to worry about the bean – allowing us to develop a rich mouthfeel.
Our Burundi coffee will offer a clean taste as farmers on the mountains twice wash the beans, at fermentation and afterwards. Our Burundi coffee will give a sweet berry taste, alongside a juicy acidity.
Cameroon started coffee manufacture in the 1940’s and has developed to a global scale. Our Cameroon coffee is medium bodied and you may detect some nuttiness – our only coffee from a Western country, but specially selected from a favourite farm in Cameroon.
Ethiopia has been brewing coffee for over a millennia. With that history they sure get a lot of things right!
The world views African coffee like it views French wine, the founders, the originals. The ones that everyone else has to compare themselves to.
